Incorporating Innovation: Surex Continues Canadian Insurance Revolution
Fresh off being selected as a finalist for the 2017 KEAL Technology Award for Digital Innovation at the upcoming Insurance Business Awards, Surex continues to push the envelope by incorporating new technology to give Canadians an unrivaled customer experience.
‘’Being an online insurance brokerage, it’s imperative to our business to continually be improving and developing new technology,’’ Lance Miller, CEO of Surex, said. ‘’We have developed all our technology in-house and that’s something we will continue to do.’’
Since inception in 2012, all of Surex’s software development has been led by Wesley Nichols, CTO of Surex. The complete quote, receive multiple offers, sign for documents and have access to instant proof of insurance process can be done from your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop. Completing an auto, home or condo/tenant quote takes 5-10 minutes.
‘’The way Wes and his team have been able to put our vision into play speaks volumes of their ability,’’ Matthew Alston, COO of Surex, said. ‘’The direct writers of insurance have motivated us to step up our game. We embrace the competition, as it pushes us to achieve more and innovate quicker.’’
Being able to analyze data, to better understand each customer’s needs, is the next step to enhancing Surex’s industry-leading customer proposition. In October, Surex hired Dr. Eric Chalmers to be the Director of Data Science to drive this artificial intelligence (AI) initiative forward.
‘’Dr. Eric’’, as he’s known around the office, graduated from the University of Alberta with a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prior to joining Surex, Dr. Eric spent six years developing intelligent systems for use in health care, proteomics, sports analytics and agriculture.
‘’We will design machine learning algorithms to discover new insights in our data and build a variety of intelligent components into our online platform,’’ Dr. Eric Chalmers, said. ‘’We will create better customer-broker pairings, which will help our brokers deliver more personalized advice to each customer, in a very short amount of time.’’
With online insurance purchases continually on the rise in Canada, incorporating AI will only increase Surex’s ability to offer the best customer proposition, rates and service in the country.
